NIGHT GARDENS in case you missed it


A Night Garden, or a Moon Garden, is planted with night-blooming flowers. It's meant to be enjoyed at dusk, or the gloaming, and in the moonlight. 


Moon Gardens typically have:

  • pale flowers and plants that reflect moonlight well  
  • flowers that smell their best in the evening

 1. Evening Primrose

  • The blooms open quickly
  • yellow flowers open before your eyes. 

2. Moonflower

  • white or pink flowers (usually white) 
  • open quickly in the evening 
  • stay open until after sunrise    

3. Datura

  • devil’s trumpet 
  • flowers in shades of pink, purple, yellow, or white
  • highly poisonous 

4. Brugmansia

  • Angel’s trumpet   
  • more a bush or shrub    

5. Night Gladiolus

  • generally blooms in late spring to mid-summer  
  • light-yellow flowers that bloom at night  
  • spicy fragrance  

6. Night Phlox

  • midnight candy
  • sweet fragrance 
  • shades of pink, white and purple

7. Night-Blooming Jasmine

  • has white blossoms with hints of green 
  • strong fragrance that is most present at night.

8. Night Scented Orchid

  • fragrant blooms release after the sun goes down

9. Nicotiana

  • flowers bloom at night 
  • shades of white, pink, green, or red 
  • have a strong fragrance that 

10. Four O’Clock

  • a single flower will sometimes have more than one color 
  • The colors most often found are white, yellow, pink, red, or magenta 

11. Casa Blanca Lily

  • fragrant, beautiful additions 
  • large, white flowers that bloom at night
  • reflects the moonlight 
  • keep in mind that all lilies are toxic to cats and dogs

12. Evening Stock

  • purple and white flowers   
  • the petals spread and come to life at night  

13. Tuberose

  • blooming flower with a strong fragrance.  
  • white flowers reflect the moonlight
